Bringing viewers the 8th stand-alone episode in a collection of Keigo Higashino's best mystery short stories. High school seniors Ryo, Yoko, and Tatsuya have been inseparable since they were little, and that includes going to the same schools. But once they hit puberty, things changed. Yoko and Tatsuya started dating, and Ryo grew troubled. He also had secret feelings for her. On the surface, nothing changed between the three of them, but Ryo found himself wishing graduation would hurry up so he could rid himself of his feelings. One day, a devastating incident occurs. Tatsuya fell from the school roof to his death. According to a student that witnessed it, Tatsuya had been walking along the roof's edge when he lost his balance and fell. The detectives on the case think it could have been suicide, but Ryo is unconvinced that it could be that, or even an accident. Why did Tatsuya die? He must know what happened. The next day, Tatsuya's locker gets trashed, and Ryo comes running to find Yoko picking up Tatsuya's scattered belongings. Despite her serenity the day before, Yoko can no longer mask her inner turmoil. Then, someone is looking at them from behind... Ryo heads to the roof where Tatsuya had been and is seemingly followed by a female student. Spotted by Ryo, she quickly runs off. On his way to follow her, Ryo is intercepted by his homeroom teacher Mr. Imoto, who then scolds him for taking the key to the roof's door, which had been made off-limits after the incident. Still, Ryo manages to ask Mr. Imoto for the name of the girl who ran. Suddenly, Ryo finds himself thinking about the girl who fainted at Tatsuya's funeral.
