WAKUWAKU JAPAN doubles carriage in Vietnam with 2 OTT platforms & increases Vietnamese subtitling to 100% from January 1, 2019

WAKUWAKU JAPAN Corporation announces that it’s 24/7 Japanese general entertainment channel WAKUWAKU JAPAN will join “Onme” and “VieON”, OTT services provided by the joint operation between leading telco Viettel and VTVcab in Vietnam from January 1, 2019. The channel will be with 100% Vietnamese subtitles as first Japanese general entertainment channel to be fully localized in Vietnamese in the country, and also it will be its first time to be distributed by OTT platforms in South East Asia.

The press conference was held in Hanoi and Mr. Umeda Kunio (Ambassador Ambassador of Japan to Vietnam) and Mr. Tran Binh Minh (Party Central Committee’s member and CEO of VTV) attended together with Mr. Kawanishi (CEO of WAKUWAKU JAPAN) and Mr. Hoang Ngoc Huan (Chairman of VTVCab).

WAKUWAKU JAPAN has been delivered through VTVcab and Viettel TV from April 1, 2018, and the distribution will be expanded to 4 platforms, adding Onme and VieON from January 1, 2019.

Over 30 media including national TV broadcaster VTV came to the press conference, and Mr. Kawanishi, CEO of WAKUWAKU JAPAN said “100% Vietnamese subtitle will attract more Vietnamese audience with channel’s variety of Japanese content and OTT carriages will provide easier access to Vietnam’s young audiences”.

Mr. Umeda, Ambassador of Japan to Vietnam, expressed his gratitude to WAKUWAKU JAPAN, saying “Having 24/7 Japanese content dedicated channel is something historical and something we wait for a long time. This year is the 45th anniversary of Japan – Vietnam diplomatic relations and the launch of the channel made it even more special. As the representative of Japanese government, I fully appreciate WAKUWAKU JAPAN’s effort and hope many people in Vietnam will enjoy Japanese content.”

Mr. Tran Binh Minh, Party Central Committee’s member and CEO of VTV affirmed, “The cooperation between VTVcab and WAKUWAKU JAPAN will be a bridge to further tighten the relationship between Vietnam and Japan, and I am happy for both parties that they found the great partner for each other”.
